Hollie Shoots the Stars at the NME Awards

28 February 2008

Music fan Hollie enjoyed the exciting prize of a one-day internship with top Getty Images entertainment photographer, Dave Hogan.

"I had the best day of my life! Being on the red carpet and wearing my press pass sticker said it all - I wore it with pride and felt very privileged to be there. At first I was a bit nervous shouting at the celebrities to look over at me, but I soon got into it and Dave gave me some great advice to shout from behind the camera and just keep taking the shots - it worked a treat!"

Hollie Cookson

"Hollie is a highly-talented young photographer who has the drive and determination to succeed. As someone who is just starting out in her career, she did very well on the red carpet and in the press room and showed some creative flair in her photographs."

Congratulations Hollie!

Hollie Cookson, 18, from Warrington, Cheshire, wins Getty Images My Britain competition!

What the judges said about Hollie...

"Hollie's pictures stood out because they are very memorable British images, which capture plenty of emotion. As well as being technically very strong, she captures her subjects unawares which is a very hard thing to do."

Competition judge, Adrian Murrell, Global Vice President, Editorial, Getty Images

"Overall, the standard of entries has been magnificent. It has been a wonderful experience to have this unique insight into how young people feel about the places where they live and how they go about capturing those feelings through photography."

Regional winners

Wales

Elise Hawkins, 17, from Barry, South Wales

"The images Elise submitted to the competition are quirky, unpredictable and very British. One image in particular of a young punk confronting a goose who’s chasing him for some bread is very humorous – catching this kind of humour is very difficult, so Elise must be commended for this."

South

Frederick Botham, 18, from London

"The images Frederick submitted to the competition are beautifully poised between the romantic and gloomy. In one particular photograph, Frederic juxtaposes elements of city life perfectly - the green and tranquil park, with the harsh and concrete city backdrop."

Competition judge, Hugh Pinney, Managing Editor of News, Getty Images Back to top

Scotland

Callum Ogg, 17, from Glasgow

"Callum's photographs are all well executed and show his range of ability and skill. They depict beautiful Scottish landscapes from the highlands and show Scotland in a very real and accurate light."
